Lexia Reading
Assessment
Years 4 - adult
Lexia Reading Assessment is an assessment program that analyses
reception readiness (including phonological awareness), phonics and decoding skills, sight words, reading comprehension, rate, and fluency using miscue analysis. The 20 to 30 minute test, which a teacher or other adult administers, also categorises the student’s performance in each skill area as Independent, Instructional, or Frustration Reading Level.
The computer generates detailed reports for each individual student that provides the teacher with a clear understanding of the student’s strengths and weaknesses and prescribes practice activities in Lexia’s skill development software that will benefit the particular individual.
In addition to individual reports, the computer can produce classroom, school and
area level reports, giving teachers and management the ability to assess not only the students’ improvement from year to year, but also the performance of a specific group in comparison to another. The reports evaluate according to skill levels, rather than
year levels. Once students have taken the 20 to 30 minute Lexia Comprehensive Reading Test once,
they only need to take a 5 to 10 minute test to determine their progress.
The thorough feedback and easy monitoring of progress that Lexia
Reading Assessment provides helps teachers more effectively plan lessons and develop the curriculum to meet the needs of their students. Similarly, the test helps
management track their school’s improvement, ultimately helping their students reach their full potential.
