Assessment

An integral part of learning, feedback allows teachers to identify students' strengths and weaknesses. Assessing students in all phases of their learning helps teachers teach more effectively, which then raises the quality of the students’ learning.

Lexia has designed two computerized diagnostic reading programs to assess students’ strengths and weaknesses, both individually and by classroom. Both tests are administered by a teacher to a student, one-on-one, and produce extensive reports that support lesson planning and curriculum development. The two programs are suitable for students in Years R -11.

Lexia Quick Reading Test

This five to eight minute test provides an efficient and thorough evaluation of a student’s decoding skills, word attack strategies and automaticity with sight words. The program then scores and interprets the results, generating graphic and tabular reports that highlight the student’s needs in a clear and comprehensive manner.

Lexia Reading Assessment

This test assesses Reception readiness (including phonological awareness), phonics and decoding skills, sight-words, reading comprehension, rate and fluency. After the student takes the test, which takes 20-30 minutes initially and then 5-10 minutes for each additional assessment, the computer produces a detailed report that indicates Independent, Instructional and Frustration levels for each skill and prescribes practice activities in Lexia software. The quick and accurate assessment program can also create reports at the classroom, school and area levels to show average performance and improvement.
